MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • 1L Earthcote Granite ‘Isikonkwane Blue’
  • 2L Midas ENVIROLITE 220 ‘The Moat’ 4EGB

CREATING THE POLKA DOT WALL:

  1. Coat your wall with 2 coats Midas ENVIROLITE 220.
  2. Either hand draw circles or have a professional cut-out vinyl stencil made, for a quicker, slicker finish. If you do your own freehand circles, use a dinner plate – carefully measuring out the distance between them to ensure even spacing.
  3. Use a Hamilton’s ‘Perfection’ synthetic bristle brush, which makes it far easier to get clean, defined edges without spilling over the lines.
  4. Apply two coats of Granite inside the polka dot ‘blanks’. If you are using a vinyl stencil, you should paint in one direction consistently, either top to bottom or left to right. Sticking to the same direction will give your finish a slicker, more even finish.
  5. When dry, peel off the vinyl stencils.

TIPS: Order peel-on-peel-off vinyl stencils from Sign Bomb Wall Art (021 447 6075). They deliver countrywide. Get ideas on their Facebook page.

COST: Under R400 for 8m2 feature wall (excluding labour & vinyl stencil).

MATERIALS NEEDED:

CREATING THE PLAID WALL:

Contemporary checkerboard looks and plaid walls can be done using masking tape in different widths and configurations. Using texture on smooth paint in the same colour creates the pattern.

  1. To create the Plaid Wall pictured above, apply two coats ENVIROLITE 220.
  2. Mask off the block pattern (these were 12cm square), making sure your tape is firmly pressed to the surface, to avoid bleed.
  3. Now apply two coats Earthcote Limestone Paint – ‘Crushed Shell’. Allow to dry. Remove masking tape.

COST: Under R550 for 8m2 feature wall (excludes labour).

Creating Colour Blocking Wall

5 Dec

Earthcote Summer Promo Feature Wall #2

Colour Blocking Wall* Click image to enlarge *

MATERIALS NEEDED:

CREATING THE COLOUR BLOCKING WALL:

This is a classic approach, reminiscent of Mark Rothko colour blocking, using Earthcote Worn Leather in these colours: Cream (top) Mountain Boot (middle stripe) and Chalk White (bottom).

  1. Start with 1 coat Supamatt Primer, as an undercoat, then apply the Worn Leather colours. The effect will have an individual look each time, so expect to create a unique art wall of your own.
  2. Blend each colour block into the next as smoothly and seamlessly as possible, using as little paint on your brush as possible and working it into the wall, softening any sharp lines. Wet your brush to blend further if needed.
  3. Once the wall is dry, finish it off with one or two layers of Earthcote Wall Wax. Polish the wax either by hand or with an orbital buffer, as you would a floor.

WORN LEATHER EXTENDS YOUR PAINT BUCK!

Worn Leather paint goes a long way, as very little paint is needed to achieve the desired effect. Your three 1L tins of Worn Leather done in this style could cover as much as 16m2 – at a cost of under R500 including primer and wax. Painting 8m2 works out at a cost of approximately R250 or less.

COST: Under R250 for 8m2 feature wall (excluding labour).

MATERIALS NEEDED:

CREATING STORM WALL:

  1. Start with 2 coats of Earthcote Worn Leather, applied by brush.
  2. To accentuate the uneven ‘burn’ in the look, overcoat the Worn Leather wall (once dry) with a coat of Envirolite 220 in the same or similar grey – diluted 50/50 with water. (We use Envirolite ‘Femme Fatale’).
  3. Apply with a sponge roller.
  4. When you’re happy with how the look has developed, finish with one or two layers of Earthcote Wall Wax. Polish either by hand or with an orbital buffer, as you would a floor.

COST: Under R450 for 8m2 feature wall (includes allowance for special materials – excludes labour).
